Living on Tea Lattes and hustle… Last week was as Living on Tea Lattes and hustle… Last week was as creative as they come! My temp gig at Anthropologie, end of an art show, a private paint your pet event and a corporate paint your pet event. I ended it with a much needed eyebrow wax! We always joked that this was Bellini’s song. For We always joked that this was Bellini’s song. For her there was never enough snacks, naps or snuggles. For us there wasn’t enough time. We love you sweet B, go find your brother and play.
It’s not easy being a pet portrait artist when you It’s not easy being a pet portrait artist when you’re grieving the loss of your own pet. But in a lot of ways, painting has helped me. I understand completely what these families are feeling. Pet loss is hard to explain and not enough people want to talk about it. I know you want to see your baby’s face. I know you want them back on your lap. I know you want to say good morning and tell them you love them. Painting through my own grief made me realize, I might have something real to give to people dealing with this type of grief. My hope is that it helps you through the process as much, as allowing me to paint your fur baby has helped me. #petmemorial
Meet Teddy — named after Theodore Roosevelt and ye Meet Teddy — named after Theodore Roosevelt and yes, his portrait has had a nod to that. I started the sketch and leaning a little bit more into Theodore Roosevelt, but I ultimately decided that it’s really about the charm, the ridiculous cuteness of Teddy so I shifted and let the painting become about joy instead of likeness alone. this is exactly what I love to do. My work isn’t meant to be a replica of the photo on your phone. It’s about pulling out the whimsy, silliness, and the spirit that makes your pet yours. Sometimes that means playful details, unexpected touches, or story woven into the piece. This painting makes me go awww, every time I see it. It’s one of the sweetest ideas.
